Latvian Europeers Create a Walking Route in Smiltene about Youth Opportunities in Europe
Latvian EuroPeers created a 4 km walking route in Smiltene, sharing Erasmus+ and Solidarity Corps opportunities during Mobility Week.
The Agency for International Programs for Youth (JSPA) and the European Union (EU) programmes Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps, young people from the Latvian “EuroPeers” network — Evelīna Spiridonova, Vendija Kokare, Simona Pastare and Ingars Jēkabsons—responded to the invitation of Liepāja, the Latvian Youth Capital 2025, and the Liepāja Youth House. Together, they created an educational walking activity for the orientation game ”Rediscover Your City!”, which is included in the nationwide youth orientation challenge and the European Mobility Week programme.
A walk with added value
In total, 7 municipalities applied for the orientation activity, and the Latvian EuroPeers drew lots to determine the city where they would design the route — Smiltene. The walking route prepared in the mobile app ”ActionBound” takes participants through Smiltene, covering about 4 km in a little over an hour, with 10 checkpoints and various thematic tasks.
The route created by Latvian EuroPeers is thematic and contains information about opportunities for young people (aged 13–30) to participate in non-formal education projects under Erasmus+ and the European Solidarity Corps.
The aim of the route is not only to encourage young people to spend their free time actively in the urban environment and rediscover their city, but also to highlight how EU programmes help them gain international experience, implement non-formal education projects, and build new connections across Europe.
Everyone is invited to walk the route during European Mobility Week, taking place from 16 to 22 September, but it will remain accessible afterwards as well. Other routes prepared for the ”Rediscover Your City! ” orientation game will be shared later on the Liepāja Youth House Instagram account: @youth.house.liepaja.
