Europeers attended Europe Day at the NL-BE-DE Three-Country Point
Europeers Virgil (Nijmegen), Xinhui and Lukas (Aachen), Fons (Heerlen), Jeremy (Eupen), Veronika (Emmerich), and Jazine (Eindhoven) celebrated #EuropeDay2025
On 9th and 10th May, a group of enthusiastic Europeers from the Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium came together in Vaals to celebrate Europe Day. This spot — right where the three countries meet — was the perfect place to talk about European cooperation and the amazing opportunities the EU offers to young people.
The event marked 75 years since the Schuman Declaration — the beginning of a united Europe. And Vaals has its own special EU vibe: it used to be a four-country point back when “Moresnet” was still around, which was a mining region!
Our Europeers crew included Virgil (Nijmegen), Xinhui and Lukas (Aachen), Fons (Heerlen), Jeremy (Eupen), Veronika (Emmerich), and Jazine (Eindhoven). The weather was amazing — sunshine all around — and the area was full of tourists, hikers, and students. Over the two days, around 2,000 people passed by our stand!

Here’s what we did:
- We had fun chats with teens who’ll soon be 18 — perfect timing to learn about Erasmus+ and the European Solidarity Corps.
- We spoke with parents and grandparents who were curious about the opportunities for their (grand)kids.
- Fons had a good talk with the mayor of Vaals, Harry Leunessen, about EU youth programmes and what we as Europeers do.
- Veronika even shared her exchange experience live on stage — super inspiring!
- And of course, we couldn’t leave without tasting local snacks: Belgian fries, German currywurst, Aachener Printen-cookies, Dutch frikandel, and veggie burgers!
It was such a cool experience. We got to connect with other Europeers from the border region, tell our stories, and switch between Dutch, English, German and French. A real European vibe!
We want to thank the European Commission Representation of the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany (Bonn-office) for providing us this opportunity. As Europeers from this spot of Europe we hope this yearly event remains in the region.
